One honest clarification: STEK DYNOmatte itself is a satin finish, the middle option above. If the dead-flat matte look is what you are after, several of the other film brands we carry offer true matte, and we will match you to the right film. We stock samples of both at the Kent shop, and the smart move is seeing them on a real panel before you commit.
One film, two jobs
Protecting factory matte paint. Matte factory finishes are beautiful and brutally unforgiving: no polishing, no touch-ups, no spot repairs. A matte-family protection film puts an 8-mil self-healing barrier over the paint, so rock chips, scuffs and swirls land in a layer that heals or replaces instead of a finish that cannot. STEK DYNOmatte delivers this in a satin sheen; for factory finishes that need a true dead-flat match, we carry matte protection films from other brands and will match the sheen on a sample panel first. For a matte car driven on I-5 or SR-167, film is less an upgrade than an insurance policy.
Converting gloss to satin. The same film over gloss paint delivers the full satin conversion people usually buy a matte wrap for, with the protection a wrap cannot match: self-healing against light scratches, real impact absorption and STEK's 10-year warranty. It costs more than a matte vinyl wrap; it also does more. What is matte PPF?
Matte-family paint protection film is self-healing urethane with a low-sheen finish instead of gloss. On factory matte paint it protects a finish that is famously unrepairable; on gloss paint it converts the look while adding rock-chip armor. Our flagship is STEK DYNOmatte, which comes in a satin finish with the hydrophobic top coat built in; true dead-flat matte films are available from other brands we carry.
I have factory matte paint. Why is PPF nearly mandatory?
Because matte paint cannot be spot-repaired: polishing adds shine, touch-up lacquer flashes glossy, and a single scuff usually means repainting the panel. Film changes that math completely. A stone chip lands in the DYNOmatte instead of the paint, and light scratches self-heal with heat.
Can I turn my gloss car satin with matte PPF?
Yes, and it is the premium way to do it: a satin conversion and full-body protection in a single layer. Compared to a matte vinyl wrap you gain self-healing, thicker impact protection and a 10-year warranty; the wrap costs less up front. We install both and will quote them side by side.
How much does matte PPF cost?
Matte film follows the same coverage structure as our clear packages: partial front, full front end and full vehicle, quoted to your exact car. Film choice is one of the price factors, so satin runs close to our published clear-film averages. The PPF cost guide has the package breakdown.
How do I wash a car with matte PPF?
Hand wash with pH-neutral soap and skip wax, polish and brush car washes, the same rules as matte paint, except the film is far more forgiving when someone gets it wrong. Light swirls that would permanently mark matte paint self-heal out of DYNOmatte with a little heat.
Does matte PPF yellow or peel?
Quality film professionally installed does not. STEK DYNOmatte carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty against yellowing, cracking and delamination, and our edges are hand-trimmed and tucked so there is nothing to catch a pressure washer or a jacket zipper.
