Color PPF
Colour change and paint protection in a single film. All the finish options of a vinyl wrap, with the rock-chip protection and self-healing of PPF. Installed in Kent, WA.
What Color PPF Is, and Why It Is Replacing Vinyl
Color PPF is paint protection film that carries the colour in the film itself. You get the same visual result as a colour-change vinyl wrap, but the material underneath is protection film rather than decorative vinyl.
That difference matters on the road. Vinyl wrap changes how a car looks; it does very little to stop a stone from reaching the paint. Color PPF is thicker, has an elastomeric top layer that absorbs impact, and self-heals light swirls and scratches with heat. The colour and the armour are the same layer, so you are not choosing between looking good and being protected.
It is the more premium choice, and it costs more than vinyl. For a lot of our clients in Kent, Bellevue and Seattle, that trade is worth making once, rather than wrapping a car in vinyl and then discovering the paint underneath still chipped.

Color PPF vs Vinyl Wrap vs Clear PPF
Clear paint protection film protects your factory colour and is effectively invisible. Vinyl wrap changes your colour and offers minimal protection. Color PPF does both at once.
Colour change: vinyl and Color PPF both do this. Clear PPF does not. Rock-chip protection: Color PPF and clear PPF both do this. Vinyl largely does not. Self-healing: Color PPF and clear PPF recover from light scratches with heat. Vinyl does not. Reversibility: all three come off cleanly when professionally removed, leaving factory paint intact.
The practical way to decide: if you love your paint colour and want it protected, choose clear PPF. If you want a different colour on a budget, vinyl still makes sense. If you want a different colour and you want the paint underneath protected properly, that is Color PPF.

Installed Like PPF, Not Like a Wrap
Color PPF is thicker and less forgiving than vinyl, and it behaves differently under heat. It has to be installed with paint protection film technique: wet application, controlled tension, and edges wrapped rather than trimmed flat wherever the panel allows.
We install it the same way we install clear film. Panels are decontaminated and, where needed, corrected first, because anything left under the film stays under the film. Complex areas such as bumpers, mirrors and door handles are often taken further apart than a vinyl job would require, so the film can be tucked instead of cut short.
That is the reason a Color PPF install takes longer than a vinyl wrap of the same car, and it is the reason the result holds up.

Frequently Asked Questions
01 What is Color PPF?
Color PPF is paint protection film with the colour built into the film. It changes your vehicle's colour like a vinyl wrap while protecting the paint underneath from rock chips and scratches like clear PPF. It is a single film doing both jobs.
02 How is Color PPF different from a vinyl wrap?
They look similar when finished, but the material is different. Vinyl is a decorative film and offers very little impact protection. Color PPF is thicker, absorbs impacts, and self-heals light scratches with heat. Color PPF costs more; vinyl is the budget option.
03 Does Color PPF cost more than a vinyl wrap?
Yes. Color PPF is a more expensive material and takes longer to install because it is fitted using paint protection film technique. Most clients weighing the two are deciding whether they want the paint underneath genuinely protected. Contact us for a quote on your vehicle.
04 Will Color PPF damage my factory paint?
No. When professionally installed and removed, Color PPF does not damage factory paint. The paint underneath is usually in better condition than unprotected panels, because it has been shielded from UV, chips and scratches.
05 How many Color PPF colours can I choose from?
We can order 212 Color PPF colours across STEK DYNO Color, Inozetek Dynamic PPF, CheetahWrap CheetahPCC, 3M PWF and Avery Dennison PrismaPro, in gloss, satin, matte, metallic, iridescent, chrome and forged-pattern finishes. Browse them all on our brand pages.
06 Can Color PPF be combined with clear PPF?
Yes, and it is a common request. Some clients run Color PPF over the body and clear film on high-impact areas, or keep the factory colour on some panels. We will walk through the coverage options for your vehicle when you get a quote.
